The “American Idol” week ahead is going to be a long one. And not just for the contestants. For us. According to Fox, the Top 12 guys perform Tuesday from 8-9:30 pm . The girls go on Wednesday from 8-9:30 pm with a two-hour results show Thursday. Welcome back, too-long results shows. Gah.

Since this season doesn’t seem to really be playing out as anyone previously said, I’m going to guess what happens Thursday. All press releases say the Finalists will be announced. I’m guessing that’s the Top 12 (though I’ve heard there will be a 13th wild card member, but who knows). That means 12 people would be cut Thursday. Six guys, six girls? Of course I could be wrong. Last season went from Top 24 to Top 20 this week. Anything is possible this season.

That all being said, Tuesday night the guys are singing songs from their musical idols and I must say, there are some pretty interesting choices. Check out our guys’ song spoilers if you’re interested.

I’m going to go out on a limb and predict the four guys who will definitely be safe, the two guys that will probably be safe, the two guys that could go either way and the four guys that will probably go home (the latter eight can be interchangeable to protect myself from being wrong – ha!). And remember these are just predictions mixed with opinion. Nothing more. Think I’m wrong? What’s your say.

Who will be safe

Casey Abrams. I heard he’s even in the “pimp spot.” And almost dying and exiting the competition surely can’t hurt you get votes.

Robbie Rosen. His name is popping up on A LOT of blog comments as a favorite. And his talent and boyish good looks. He’s fine.

Brett Loewenstern. He’s been showcased a lot. He’s got “stage presence.” Vote For the Worst will probably pick him for the characiture alone.

Scotty McCreery. He’ll get the country vote and his sweetness is going to carry him a bit at least.

Who will probably be safe

Paul McDonald. That smile. That voice. He’s pretty refreshing. But he gets weird on stage. That could be off-putting.

Jacob Lusk. He’s a musical freak (in a good way). He, too, is pretty refreshing. But, he too, is also weird on stage.

Who could go either other way

James Durbin. He’ll get some sympathy votes. He’ll get some rocker votes. But he’ll get  a lot of Adam Lambert fan hate. He could go either way.

Stefano Langone. He’s gotten a lot of blog comment love. If those people vote, he’ll be fine.

Who will probably go home

Tim Halperin. He might be one of the most talented and marketable guys but he’s been so sidelined that viewers don’t know him yet. He and Stefano could easily be interchanged here depending on their performances.

Clint Jun Gamboa. Maybe it’s just wishful thinking on my part, but people hate this guy already. He really shot himself in the foot during Hollywood week.

Jordan Dorsey. The only person possibly disliked more than Clint is Jordan.

Jovany Barreto. He’s kind of a tool. I just don’t see him beating out any of the other guys.

The girls take the stage Wednesday. Stay tuned for my predictions on that tomorrow.

Top12guys.pngIf you just can't wait for Tuesday night (yes, Tuesday! Don't forget!), we have good news for you. You can find out what the Top 12 boys will be singing here! Thanks to Joe's Place Blog, we have inside information from Friday's taping. The Top 24 are performing on the real American Idol stage, in front of a real audience. No more small, circular stage surrounded by a pit of close family and friends. It's all real.

Here is Tuesday night's set list, with the order and what songs the guys chose.

You kept asking for it and now FOX is ready to deliver with American Idol online voting! Starting this Tuesday, March 1st right after the Top 12 Guys performance show you’ll be able to get on americanidol.com and vote for your favorite singer!

Of course there are a few catches, but they’re not big issues at all. You’ll have to log in to the voting system using your Facebook account info (speaking of, you already joined us on Facebook, right??), so if you don’t have that set up yet then get it ready now. Secondly, you have to be a U.S. resident (including Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands). Lastly, you’ll only have 50 votes allowed while phone and text messages (AT&T only) are unlimited voting. Once you’ve logged in on americanidol.com (NOT on facebook.com, but rather using your Facebook account info) you’ll select your vote on a voting page from a series of pictures, perform a verification (to make sure you’re not a bot), submit it, and then rinse & repeat.

What do you think of their plan for American Idol voting online? Is it about time they did it or something you wish they didn’t? Of course, this means Simon Cowell won’t beat Idol to it when he does it for his new show, X Factor, this fall.

Check out the American Idol’s press release after the jump:

For the first time ever, American Idol will allow viewers to vote for their favorite contestants online at americanidol.com. Sponsored by AT&T, online voting begins immediately after the first performance show airing Tuesday, March 1 (8:00-9:30 PM ET/PT) on FOX. In addition to online voting, fans will continue to be able to vote via toll-free phone lines, as well as unlimited text-message votes for AT&T wireless customers during the voting window (standard text-messaging rates may apply).

To vote online during the voting window, fans should visit AmericanIdol.com and follow the directions. Fans will be required to log in using their Facebook account to access the American Idol voting page, which will feature the name and photo of each of the current contestants. To vote, fans will simply choose their favorite contestant, complete the security verification and submit their choice. After each performance show and during the online voting window, fans may cast up to 50 total online votes for that evening’s performances. Only fans with a registered Facebook account in the U.S., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands will be able to cast their vote(s) online.

“We have been wanting to do online voting for several years, and now Facebook has offered us a secure solution and we are ready to go,” said Simon Fuller, Creator and Executive Producer, American Idol. “The show has always involved a high level of engagement with its viewers through texting and phone voting, and it’s great to expand on this tradition.”

While I’m very excited to see this finally happening, I hope they’re ready for all the conspiracy theories it’ll introduce with every results reveal. Just think back to DWTS’ Bristolgate to see how easily dissatisfaction with the results can turn in to a blame game and accusations of abuse. Maybe the use of Facebook is intended to calm those concerns (hah!). I’ll just keep my fingers crossed.

Thursday night’s Green Mile episode for American Idol 2011 was the most drawn out, God awful two hours I’ve ever sat through for AI.  It was the same thing over and over for each contestant no matter if it was yes or no.  I kept looking at the clock thinking PLEASE LET THIS END!!!  They could have very easily wrapped it up in an hour.

I’m still not believing they picked Scotty McCreery over John Wayne Shultz and it should have been Colton Dixon over Brett and Jacee.  They made the right choice in letting Jacee have another year or two of training because he was not ready for the big stage.  I would have loved to see a rocker in the bunch but this season we get the same type of singer in all the guys.  They either sing way high and scream (James Durbin is the only one with the talent in this group) or it’s the boring slow song type guys.  BIG SIGH HERE!

Have you joined us on Facebook yet? Join in the fun and share your thoughts!

Enough of that.  Here’s your American Idol 2011 Top 12 Guys performance order and song choice spoilers for each guy thanks as always to Joe’s Place:

AI10Top24Gallery_110215_BrettLoewenstern_768r.jpgThis season on American Idol the show made a big deal about lowering the age limit to 15. The goal was to expand the pool of potential contestants, but did it make a difference?

Well, there are no 15-year-olds in the Top 24, so that should answer that question. While the average age of the contestants this season is lower than last season's Top 24, it's not by much. Season 10 of American Idol has two 16-year-olds, just like season 9, and five teenagers, just like season 9.
