American Idol 2011 judges

The Hollywood Reporter is is reporting that Jennifer Lopez is finally expected to sign a deal this week to return as a judge on “American Idol” next season.

“We’re in good shape. No worries. No dark clouds on the horizon,” Cécile Frot-Coutaz, CEO at FremantleMedia North America, which produces Idol told the Wall Street Journal.

Lopez has been the only holdout as Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler inked deals shortly after season 10 ended. Her holdout has likely been due to salary negotiations, sources believe.

Last season, Lopez took home a whopping $12 million for praising judging the contestants.

“American Idol” Season 10 2nd runner-up Haley Reinhart has signed to Jimmy Iovine’s Interscope Records, according to multiple sources.

Haley is now the fourth season 10 contestant to sign to the label. The others were winner Scotty McCreery, runner-up Lauren Alaina and Pia Toscano.

Earlier in the summer, Haley, along with other Top 11 contestants were given management deals from Red Light Management. So that means she’s ready to cut her first album.

While there aren’t any details on her album, Haley did tell Reality Rocks that she has some hopes for her upcoming release.

“In a perfect world, I would love it be bluesy, soulful, funky – a lot of stuff incorporated,” she told the site. “I think it’s possible!”

Remember American Idol 2011′s most shocking elimination? Well, it’s time to find out if fans were right to over react to Pia Toscano’s Idol departure because her first single, “This Time,” has had a couple days to circulate (listen to the new single below).

I’ve listened to it and while Pia was one of my favorites during the season, I don’t care much for the single. I was actually pretty surprised it was an empowerment anthem and not a ballad.

But Pia explains the song better than I could.

“The song could pertain to ‘American Idol’ and my journey on the show,” Toscano told MTV News. “It’s a journey of self-discovery and empowerment, and it’s not just a breakup song.”

        Jennifer Lopez Marc Anthony

Jennifer Lopez, whose return to American Idol 2012 has been in question, announced her divorce from Marc Anthony this past Friday. While I have no interest in digging in to the reason for the couple’s split, I can’t help but wonder about the impact on JLo’s still unannounced decision on whether or not to return to American Idol next season.

Late last season we learned that Lopez would be teaming up with her husband and reality royalty, Mark Burnett, to create a Latin music reality series called “The Chosen.” Couple that with Lopez’s return to the musical spotlight, which means touring, and it was quickly looking like we had seen the last of Jennifer and her goosebumps behind the judges’ table.

If Lopez and Marc Anthony are calling it quits then would she really want to tour Latin America with him to find new musical superstars? Or would she prefer to come back to the comfort of that middle chair, collect her $12+ million paycheck, and not shake her rump at next season’s finale for her soon to be ex?

I’m guessing it’s the latter. What do you think? Could this news make it more or less likely that Jennifer Lopez returns for American Idol 2012?
