Auditions Archives

Update: We’ve got Paris Tassin’s audition down below along w/ tonight’s intro so you can watch Blake Patterson break down and then check out the new fancy intro.

Week 1 American Idol Season 10 auditions continue tonight with another two full hour of high notes and low points as the judges head to New Orleans for more.

Last night’s episode introduced many changes and I’d have to say they were working well. From the simplest of a new intro to the show (very slick) to the most anticipated change with the judges, American Idol is definitely back in full force.

Unlike some past seasons, Wednesday’s premiere felt like it kept its focus on the better singers rather than hyping and dashing the dreams of the hopeless. Maybe producers are trying to keep things more on the talent and less on the trainwrecks.

The big question of the night was of course, can American Idol survivor without Simon Cowell? My answer is: yes. The judges panel felt smooth even if occasionally awkward with Lopez trying to lead when she should let the 9-season veteran Randy show them the way. I’ll still have to be convinced once we reach the live performance stage of the show and we can see how this new trio handles on-stage mentoring and guidance, but for now I’m satisfied.

For a more in-depth analysis of what worked and what didn’t (or at least what was liked and what wasn’t), check out Reality Rewind’s Idol 2011 premiere review and don’t miss what Small Screen Scoop had to say on the new Idol judges’ debut.

Are you ready to accept American Idol 2011 for all its changes and move forward like it’s the show you’ve always loved? Any early favorites for you?

Update 3: By popular demand, here is Paris Tassin, the 23 year old medical assistant from New Orleans singing “Temporary Home” by Carrie Underwood.

Update 2: Poor Blake Patterson. He definitely didn’t make it to Hollywood:

Bonus Update: Watch 16-year old Travis Orlando, the final singer from last night, perform ‘Eleanor Rigby’ and ‘I’m Yours’ for the judges in the video below.

Update: Join us in our Idol chat room to share your thoughts on tonight’s premiere!

Here. We. Go! Tonight at 8PM on FOX is the American Idol 2011 premiere episode that we’ve all been waiting eight months to see since last season’s finale.

Simon may be gone, but will he be missed? Of course! But we’re about to see if the new power duo of Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler can calm the nervous twitches of loyal viewers for whom American Idol is synonymous with Simon Cowell.

Randy and Ryan will ease the transition as we get our first glimpse of a judges panel featuring new faces and more importantly, new voices in front of that panel.

We’ll get a full two hours tonight of Idol hopefuls coming to New Jersey to do their best in hopes of earning a golden ticket to Hollywood. Just one night later on Thursday we’ll be treated to another two hours of American Idol when the judges head south for New Orleans so don’t wander too far away. We’ve got the full American Idol schedule for 2011 through early March to see what’s coming up.

American Idol

The search for the next American Idol continued this week as the new 2011 judges headed to New Orleans. Jackson, Tyler, and Lopez, with Seacrest along for the ride, headed toward the bayou and took in over a hundred auditions as part of the final round in Louisiana. So far Randy is pretty excited about what he’s seeing while Lopez thinks she could count on two hands how many hopefuls are Idol material:

“Look, here’s the deal. We’ve got two amazing artists on the panel with us now who are doing the journey with us. I think the show grows and gets better every year… Those contestants (who) go out there and sing, the talent, is what makes it different. For us, we’ve seen amazing talent this year. I don’t feel any pressure at all.” [Jackson said.]

Lopez counted about a dozen “real contenders” from all four audition cities so far (the show moves to Nashville next), singers “who I’d love to see in the finals if I was a viewer at home,” she said. “I’m excited about watching the journey and seeing if they hold up.

Let’s hope they find more than a dozen or this season is going to be in real trouble!

Don’t forget, if you’ve attended any of these final rounds of auditions then we want to hear from you. We’re looking for more details on the new judges.

American Idol 2011 judges

American Idol 2011 continued its search for the next superstar with day two in New Jersey and featured all three of the 2011 judges: Randy, JLo, and Steven.

People magazine caught up with the Idol judges while they were watching the auditions to see how things were going and the advice they had so far:

As the first round of American Idol auditions kicked off on Tuesday, the singer-dancer-actress [Lopez] is embracing her new role, describing her style as a mix between “tough, easy and fair.”

And she’s not letting anyone off the hook.

“I really want to put them through the wringer in the sense that I don’t want to let anybody who’s really great go … because they’re nervous or whatever and not get to see what they could’ve been,” she said. “We worked with them a little more than maybe you’ve seen in the past. We give them more of a chance.”

Steven Tyler, the other panel newcomer, had advice for future Idol hopefuls: “Don’t get mad at what we say – get better.”

Veteran judge Randy Jackson also had some words of wisdom about rocking an interesting look: “Whatever you do, make it hot.”
