Here we go. It’s our very last weekly rankings post of the entire season. Only two singers remain and one of them will be named the American Idol 2011 winner on Wednesday night. Lets take a final look at where you ranked Scotty, Haley, and Lauren in last week’s poll here on our site.

Most of this season Lauren Alaina’s survival has been surprising considering how low she has ranked week after week. This past week was no different. Haley Reinhart may have been eliminated on Thursday but in our poll she had more than twice the votes of Alaina (Reinhart: 38%; Alaina: 18%). How can this be explained? Different demographics visiting this site and power block voting. While you get one vote here (unless you change browsers to get a few extra) you’re far, far less restricted when it comes to phone, texting, and online votes. Looks like Lauren could more popular with a smaller, but far more voting-active crowd.
Scotty McCreery continued his domination of our poll again this week and with James Durbin out of the race his closest competition was Haley. While our polls obviously aren’t a perfect indicator I think there’s a good chance Scotty can hang on to this lead for the win.

My, oh my how the American Idol landscape has changed. I believe few truly imagined we’d be moving ahead with two ladies in the final 3 after the way they were eliminated in rapid fire succession. The season’s recent seeming front runner has now been eliminated and that honor has now fallen back to Scotty, who I believe will now win this hot mess. Lets take a look at this week’s rankings, based as always purely on your polls here at American Idol Net.

James Durbin might have been eliminated last week, but he went out on top with the number one spot in our poll with 31% of the vote. The last person we saw to go out that high was Pia Toscano, but even she wasn’t in first place in our rankings when cut loose (Pia was in second, right behind Scotty). Scotty and Haley were just a few points behind Durbin this week at 27% and 26% respectively.
Lauren Alaina, an early favorite for the executive producers, managed to stay in the race this week despite coming in with just 14% of the vote. That was an all time high % for Lauren who had previously only hit the double digits once all season with 12% back in the Top 7 week rankings. Clearly some demographic who never visits this site is strongly supporting her elsewhere each Wednesday night.
I believe Branden is correct in his prediction for this week’s voting. Scotty and Lauren will cross streams and split votes for the country song fans leaving one of them to go home and Haley to scoot right in to the season finale next week. Randy should start preparing his Haley-criticisms right now. I might have been shocked with Lauren beating out James, but I’ll be floored if she can do the same to Scotty.

Was it just a week ago that I was ready to call this season for James Durbin? Well hold that thought because this week’s rankings could be subtitled “House of the Rising Haley” after her stock shot up in our polls. The former middle-of-the-pack singer surpassed Durbin and looks ready to challenge Scotty for the top spot.

Jennifer Lopez may have thought it was a terrible idea to sing a song no one has ever heard (ironically JLo performed a song from her album the next night…) but coupling Lady Gaga and The Animals last week on American Idol 2011 was exactly what it took for Haley Reinhart for to go up 17 points to 28% in our poll rankings. That’s the single greatest jump any singer has earned all season. While Haley’s climb was impressive she managed to fall short of first place by just one point leaving Scotty in control again this week with 29% of the vote.
On the other side of that coin was James Durbin who fell 19 points down to 27% from last week’s dominating position of 46%. Perhaps James needs to remember not to rest on his laurels like he did with his “Now” song that felt more like a victory lap effort than an honest to goodness “in it to win it” performance.
Then there’s Lauren who stands alone at the bottom of the heap. Her danger buffer, Jacob Lusk, is now gone after three straight weeks of 4% of the vote. Haley proved that anyone can get themselves out of the ditch, but Lauren will have to work hard this week to keep from being eliminated.

Is it too soon to go ahead and call this season of American Idol for James Durbin? The rocker continues to dominate our Idol voting polls as he climbs the charts and leaves the rest of the season’s singers in his dust.

After last week’s 13% climb, James rose another 12% to sit comfortably at 46% of the vote. That’s nearly half of all votes going to the rocker while the other singers fought for his crumbs. Scotty McCreery, the former leader for most the season, put up a good fight though and earned an extra 3 points to get back up to 22%.
The bottom of the poll was once again owned by Jacob Lusk who manages to hang on week after week in American Idol 2011 despite being in last place in our rankings. Jacob maintained a 4% share of the votes like last week. Lauren Alaina shared the bottom half with just 7% of the votes, a two point drop from the previous round. Considering Casey’s seven point drop from 14% to 7% it’s not too surprising that he was let go.

American Idol 2011 Top 5 Performance Poll Rankings
- James Durbin – 46% (up from 34% previous week)
- Scotty McCreery – 22% (up from 19% previous week)
- Haley Reinhart – 11% (down from 12% previous week)
- Lauren Alaina – 7% (down from 9% previous week)
- Jacob Lusk – 4% (no change from previous week)
It’s a given that we’ll have a Jacob, Haley, and Lauren Bottom 3 this week, right? Anyone willing to argue that Scotty or James will take one of those three’s place?

“Uprising” wasn’t just James Durbin’s song choice for last week, it was his whole theme! The American Idol 2011 rankings were rattled this week when James hit the stage with possibly the most extravagantly executed performance of the season and skyrocketed to the top of the charts leaving most voters asking, “Scotty who?”

Durbin took a 13% increase in the polls after his performance of the Muse hit and now stands alone at the very top while Scotty, the season’s most frequent #1′er, was left behind with the rest of the pack. Of course Scotty McCreery still did very well with a 19% share, down from last week’s #1 with 23%, but maybe he should take note that the time to play it safe, or even cheesy, has run out.
Interestingly, the week’s biggest loser was Scotty. His drop of 4% was just ahead of Lauren Alaina’s 3 point drop and Jacob’s 2 points. Scotty should still be doing just fine overall and still looks like a strong contender for the finale, but he’ll need to avoid repeating that sinking sensation and remain competitive in this race.
