American Idol 2010 returns tonight when the remaining Top 11 performers take to the stage to sing Teen Idols, no wait, now it’s Billboard #1’s. So as we noted, the theme changed for this week’s performance (no reason has yet been announced), but the mentor and guest performers remained the same: Miley Cyrus along with Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato. Teeny Boppers rejoice!
So last week went just as I had hoped as we wished Lacey Brown farewell, though Tim Urban managed to reggae his way through to another week, possibly his last. Considering the new theme, who do you think has the best chance and who just might be singing his or her swan song?
Check back in tonight at 8PM as we discuss the 2-hour show live in our Idol chat room! Stay on top of the latest American Idol news when you follow us on Twitter!

Miley Cyrus is the special guest mentor for the Top 11 this week according to Snark Food. Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato will also perform Wednesday for the results show.
With this mentor and these performers, I’m wondering why they changed the theme from Teen Idols to Billboard’s #1 hits. It seems like this would have been the perfect week to go with their original idea. And just how much can Crystal Bowersox learn from the young Cyrus? Those styles are way different. Sounds like Aaron Kelly and Katie Stevens should gain the most insight from the young lady.
Be sure to tune in tomorrow night and watch the Top 11 perform and then the results show Wednesday when Miley will perform “When I look at you” and Joe and Demi sing “Make a wave”.

Thanks to MJ we now have confirmed that the theme for week 11 of American Idol Season 9 has been changed from Teen Idols to Billboard’s #1 hits.
The mentor for the week is a secret but we do know Fred Bronson was there as a Billboard expert. He tweeted: Just got home from a production shoot. What was I doing? Watch American Idol Tuesday night and find out.
Fred Bronson is best known for a weekly column in Billboard Magazine called “Chart Beat” and is the author of several books related to the billboard charts. He has been used on idol before during billboard theme weeks to discuss the charts with the contestants.
I have no idea why the theme was changed; perhaps there was not enough songs released by teen idols for the contestants to choose from. Can’t wait to see the secret mentor Tuesday night. Remember there is a rumor Miley Cyrus and one of the Jonas brothers will sing on Wednesday but not sure if this is true.
Why do you think Idol changed the theme and who is the possible secret mentor?

Update: Rumors from MJ’s blog is that Miley Cyrus and one of the Jona’s Brothers will perform on Wednesday night’s result show which would fit right in to the theme for this week however over at the official FOX Idol website if you roll your mouse over the top 11 picture it says Billboards #1 so not sure if they have changed the theme or not. As soon as itune’s releases the song choices I will post a link.
According to a press release by FOX the theme for next week on American Idol is Teen Idols. No details are given about this but one can only assume the contestants will be singing songs made famous by young stars like Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys and Jonas Brothers. Of course it could cover a broad spectrum of artists including Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson. We will know more as soon as itunes releases the list of possible song choices.
I’m crossing my fingers for Garcia to come out with Baby One More Time. How hilariously funny and classic would that be?
This theme comes at a time when Justin Bieber is about to release a new album so perhaps Seacrest will get his wish to have him on the show.
What are your thoughts and what songs should the contestants sing?
Update: Crystal Bowersox was out shopping today at Metropark in Century City, snagging some clothes for next week’s shows. Click images to enlarge.
