Ellen Degeneres will replace Paula Abdul on American Idol 2010. Now, what experience does she have in the music industry? How does she exactly quality to become a judge on American Idol? They’ll get anybody in Hollywood who’s a likable celebrity and a huge fan base even though she has zero experience in the music industry.

you are right she is going to take one of the #1 shows on TV and screw it up because she can’t give advice to the contestants like Paula did. She will probably tell them things like "Wow you were great I wish I was as talented as you and my career wasn’t in the crapper"
She has about the same musical talent and knowledge as Simon Cowell does. Fuck all
well they have us vote for the winner
and majority of us dont have any experience in the music industry..
I agree 100%. I have no clue how or why Ellen DeGeneres makes it to judge a singing competition. She’s a funny comedian and everything, but pretty sure she has no (publicly shown) singing abilities.
She does do a lot of talk shows with music celebrity idols on her show
and usually she gives advice to them most of the times and maybe
somebody thinks that if she can give advice to celebrities and let them become somewhat more successful, she can judge people’s singing.
She IS a very interesting and funny person but she wouldn’t
be a good role model since…well..she’s lesbian (not offending them)
But that is horrible to notice in front of CHILDREN who may be watching American Idol in 2010.
How did Perez Hilton qualify as a judge on the Miss America panel?
Tina, you are full of shit saying she’d be a bad influence.
Anyway, like thumbs up said, we vote for the winner and lack experience concerning the music industry. I like Ellen, she’s funny and a good person, so whatever.
well i think why they picked her is because shes nice and they think if they add her its ok for simon to be a huge manbitch
i think they wanted someone to represent the people
and because she isnt in the music industry she can kind of represent what the average person at home (who may not have a lot of experience in all the technicalities of music) might be thinking
and at the end of the day they are the ones buying the music
i think she’ll be good.. and she will balance out the judges panel.
i think ellen will be better, than what they have now as judges
Simply put she isn’t qualified.
She was hired for the job because the producers are banking on her likability, and comedic persona, she is know for being very kind to people, so they are expecting her to add a balance to Simon’s bluntness. They will certainly play up on her being the voice of America; meaning she will be more likely to judge the way that "we" vote. Purely from a stance of whether or not she/we enjoyed the performance.
I think it’s funny on both sides. One being, that people don’t get it that it always has and always will be a popularity contest. After all they leave most of the decisions up to unqualified teens that vote for who stays and who goes each week.
And two, they don’t get it that this show isn’t about getting the absolutely most talented artist to the top, it’s about getting the most sell-able artist to the top. This is of course why the unqualified American voters are given the power to do the voting.
They are aware that Paula, in all her kookiness was well liked, so they must replace her with someone just as well liked. After all the ratings for the show are actually more important to the show, the producers, and the network than any of the artist.
They make their money on the show, not on the artist after the show is done.

How did Paula Abdul qualify? She was a manufactured bubble gum pop singer.
she has vast experience in the entertainment industry and american idol is a talent search… everyone has a sense to what sounds good musically… good grief…
Simon does not have experience either
I don’t but I still vote
Half of America don’t but they still vote.
Ellen knows a bad singer when she sees one. Have you seen her show the day after bad auditions she makes fun of them.
She is a voice of the people.
She will make a good judge.
American Idol has two problems it is fighting in the bad publicity side of hollywood:
1. Paula Adul was well liked by most – personally, I get tired of her slurred speech, whether legal or illegal drugs – I didn’t need to see her on TV anymore.
2. Many people are troubled about Adam and his gay lifestyle, and wonder how it effected his TV voting.
Ellen is very popular, has a huge fan base, and is not only openly gay, but is in a gay marriage.
American Idol solved the two birds with one stone concept.
But true – Ellen knows nothing about the Music Industry – that is why her show is being sued for copyright infringement – it has NEVER paid any artist for the songs it had been playing on its shows. Any one who respects artists – wouldn’t have allowed that violation to occur.
Anyone who follows music knows that every time a song is played, in part, or in its entirety, a royalty is paid to the artist. Radio stations do this. Ellen’s show has not. Even though the lawsuit doesn’t name her personally, her name is on the show, it is her reputation – she has business pretending to be fan of artists when in fact she is a theif.
Yeah. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know what sounds good and what doesn’t. And do Simon, Paula or Randy qualify either. She is like Mega famous and i think it could do alot for the show. Anyway its Simons decision.
Sure, the current judges have plenty of music experience, Simon has written many many songs, Kara is a producer and songwriter, and Randy is also a famous producer and music manager..
But Ellen is the one that gives the fans opinions to the contestants, because that’s the position she wants to be in/
As she said on her talk show, she watches the show, just like us. We are the people who will be buying this music, so having Ellen on the panel will help keep the people that WE want to hear.
Anyway, Ellen is a great TV personality and i think it will make the show better than ever, for reasons such as what ive stated, the fact that shes incredibly funny, shes honest (without being harsh), and she genuinely gets into the show (she said on her show she has never missed an episode).
I think she will make a great contribution and i CANT WAIT for the next season to start
